Emenike out of Stars clash
Nigeria’s Afcon leading top striker Emmanuel Emenike will miss again their crucial World cup qualifiers match against Kenya.
The two teams are set to face off in an entertaining match at Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani in June. In a statement released by the club, Spartak Moscow explains the extent of the player’s injury.
“Emmanuel Emenike was injured against Anzhi Makhachkala and is due a medical examination.” “According to team doctor Michael Vartapetova, he suffered an injury to the interior lateral ligament and is scheduled for a surgery.”
A hamstring injury ruled him out of the Kenya match in March after he was forced to watch the match from the terraces for eight weeks.
This means that he will not have a place at the travelling party that will go to Brazil to represent the continent in the Fifa confederations cup.
Kenya managed to draw against Nigeria following a stoppage time equalizer that drew the two sides level in Calabar that forced an open group.
The last time the two sides met in Nairobi, Nigeria won the five goal thriller to book a ticket to the 2010 World cup on the final round of the World cup qualifiers following Tunisia’s defeat to Mozambique.
